  • Planning Process for 2020-2021 School Year

    With the completion of the 2019-2020 school year, the Marana Unified School District (MUSD) has shifted focus from learning at home to the summer planning process on how to reopen schools safely and responsibly for the 2020-2021 school year.

     

    The safety of MUSD students, families, and employees continues to be the District’s primary consideration in all planning discussions and decisions. A MUSD Return to School Task Force with several sub-committees has been established to survey stakeholders, analyze input, and identify learning options, as well as develop contingency plans for the 2020-2021 school year. This collaborative task force consists of a broad spectrum of representation including directors, principals, District leadership, Marana Education Association leadership, parents, teacher leadership, support staff, specialists, etc.

     

    MUSD recognizes that these are uncertain times with many unknowns and evolving conditions; therefore the District’s work will focus on safety and the identification of various learning options, guided by public health officials and the Roadmap for Reopening Schools released by the Arizona Department of Education on June 1, 2020.

     

    The Marana district is committed to providing learning environments aligned with best practices and recommendations where students, families, and teachers feel safe.

    Read June 4 communication and complete the MUSD Employee Survey 2 – June 4, 2020. The survey will close on Tuesday, June 9 at 8:00 pm. Survey closed.

    School Closure March-May 2020

    Aligned with Governor Doug Ducey and Superintendent Hoffmann’s announcement on March 30, all Marana Unified School District (MUSD) schools and District offices closed and were not open to the public for in-person assistance through the end of the school year May 20, 2020. The closure included the cancellation of school and district events and activities, musical/dance/drama performances, sport practices, athletics, trips, and all other organized events for the remainder of the year. Prom, promotions, end of year celebrations, and MUSD's public graduation ceremonies were also cancelled. Schools conducted a variety of collaborative and supportive opportunities to safely and virtually remain connected and recognize the end of year celebrations. 

     

    Governor Ducey also issued a Stay-at-Home Executive Order on March 30, 2020. This order did not change anything currently in place for employees. The Governor's Executive Order requested Arizonans to remain home as much as possible, except to access essential services or to perform essential functions or operations – school district operation is an essential service.

    • The order did not change anything currently in place for MUSD employees.
    • The order allowed people to leave home for the purposes of employment and essential services.
    • Teachers are essential workers and were able to use their classroom to teach or get the things they need; Learning at home continued following all social distancing guidelines.
    • Other school employees worked as previously assigned – remotely whenever possible. 
    • If an employee committed to being available to work, the employee must report to work or accomplished duties as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Food Services and LEAP Childcare continued as scheduled.
